Five of us set out from Silverstream and drove to Karori parking beside Ben Burn Park. The day was fine but slightly overcast and we made our way up the road to the Scout Den. From there we joined a bush track taking us on a steady climb up Wrights Hill, coming out just under the lookout. At the lookout it was time for a drink, snack and photo op. The air was not the clearest today giving Wellington Harbour a slightly hazy tinge. Then it was a walk around the grounds including a short bush walk to the old parade grounds before looping back to an entry point to the tunnels. We stopped to read the info board before heading down the road to the lower car park. From here we joined the Salvation Track, a very easy track through some lovely bush which gently winds its way down towards South Karori Road. I was surprised to see very little storm damage considering how badly Karori had been hammered a couple of weeks earlier in a severe storm. We walked along the road to Karori Park Café where we sat outside and enjoyed some lunch and a coffee before walking the back streets to return to the car. It had been a lovely day out.
