On this mostly sunny Sunday it was wonderful to have 16 club members turn up at 10 am to do the walk. We had some introductions as not everyone had met some recently joined members – great to have Nichole, Trisha and Paul with us. As indicated in the email I sent advising of the walk, we took the easier combined walking/cycle track up to the lookout. This is much longer than taking the steps but has a gentle gradient - although it is a minor inconvenience to have to jump to the side when the cry of “bike” rang out from those at the back! To their credit most of the cyclists were very polite and thanked us for doing so.
After nearly 2 hours we reached the lookout where we had a snack and group photo. As is quite usual when reaching a lookout anywhere in the Wellington region the wind was blowing hard but we got our views of Porirua and the harbour.
As we were such a large group and the time difference for each was negligible I suggested two options for our return to the cars – one down the steps, and the other down the 4-wheel drive track. There was a nearly even split and as hoped both groups arrived back at the carpark almost at the same time having taken only about 45 minutes to make the descent.
Most went on to have a coffee at Columbus.
