The day before had been very wet and the forecast was for showers, which may have been the reason there were only four of us on the walk. We were not troubled too much by the few passing showers. The good thing was that it was warm, and very calm which meant the sea was flat and there were lovely reflections on the water.
The first 20 or so minutes was a flat walk beside the water then we branched off to the left to head up the hill which is a steady but not too steep climb. The track was more rutted than on previous occasions – probably the result of the recent very heavy rain. We arrived at Onehunga Bay where we had a brief snack and drinks break.
After our snack we extended our walk by heading further round the coast, and then Lyn and I went up and over a low hill to Kaitawa Point, where we had a view of Mana Island, albeit a bit indistinct in the low cloud and mist. We retraced our steps to Onehunga Bay and then continued on the track following the water’s edge to our cars arriving about 2.5 hours after we set out. We then headed to Columbus in Mitre 10 for a coffee.
