The walk was undertaken in relatively calm conditions, but although the weather forecast said the rain would clear by 8am, that was not the case, so most of the walk was in drizzly rain.
The first 20 or so minutes was a flat walk beside the water then we branched off to the left to head up the hill which is a steady but not too steep climb and descent. After 40 minutes we arrived at Onehunga Bay where, due to the drizzly weather, we had a brief snack and drinks break. We didn’t linger and headed off after a short break to walk the flat coastal track by the water’s edge back to our cars. We stopped to observe some spoonbills searching for food in the mud flats. Soon after we arrived back at our cars, just over 2 hours after we set out. We then headed to Columbus in Mitre 10 for a coffee.
