This was a walk where members were invited to bring children along and the plan was to walk at the children’s pace and as far as they could handle. It was nearly cancelled at the last minute as it rained, but we went ahead and 10 people turned up. Two were 7-year-old girls.
We had quite a few stops as the children needed to snack often. They did well and we got down the hill through beautiful bush to the dam. The rain had almost stopped by then, but we had decided only to go to the dam and not further along the river as we usually do. It was wet everywhere, so we had our snacks standing up. The girls raced back up the hill to the car park and most of us went to the café in Maungaraki.
