We had a fabulous day out in Wellington searching out bees (there are 30 large and 20 smaller fibreglass bees which have been decorated by artists and schools on display scattered throughout the city) and finding other treasures along the way. It was a shame the weather decided to put on a chillier day than we had been enjoying earlier in the week, but although rain threatened, it stayed fine – win!
The group met at the railway station and after a group photo at the bee just outside, we made our way along the waterfront. We stopped at the Portrait Gallery and enjoyed the art works on display as well as said bee. Another quick stop by Paddy the Wanderers Statue before heading into the Museum of Wellington for another two bees. More wandering along the harbour before stopping to give the naked man a little push – maybe we should have tried to save him.
We stopped for a coffee before heading up Courtenay Place and then along Tory St to Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, finding bees all the way along. Then it was up to Cuba St and lunch at Midnight Expresso before making our way to the Old Bank Arcade via Te Aro Park and the Central Library. We arrived at The Old Bank Arcade in time to see the hourly show given by the clock and then downstairs to look at the remnants of Plimmers Ark. We waved goodbye to Nichola at the Central Library and Jeannine by The Old Bank Arcade. Both needed to get away before the walk finished.
It was then a quick dash back to the Railway Station to catch the 2.30pm train back to Upper Hutt. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed this somewhat different walk.
