5 of us started this day with overcast conditions and a brisk breeze. The walk commenced from Kowhai Street in Eastbourne. There is a slight inline up to the start of walk and this does get the heart pumping. Once on the track, you have track and steps to get you to the top before
progressing down to Butterfly Creek. On the way are delightful views of Wellington Harbour. Once at the top we made our way down to Butterfly Creek. This is a very good track, again with steps and boardwalks. The bush here is Beech with Silver Fern and rather cooling after the walk up
from Kowhai St to the top. Once arriving at the picnic area, we stopped for drinks and snacks. The track was busy with other people walking and dog walking. There was also a large group of men who are volunteers in setting traps for opossum, they were going further into the dense bush behind the picnic area. After a rest period we made our way back to the top to go down to the Bus Barn. Whilst on this part of the track the wind certainly picked up and temperature dropped a bit. Again, amazing
views of the harbour. By the time we came off the track, the wind was quite ferocious and some light rain. We decided if there was a bus available, we would make use of it and as luck would have it there was. We were dropped of close to Kowhai Street, made our way to the cars and then onto the Eastbourne Village for coffee and treats.
