Six of us (Sue, Rob, Jeannine, Denise, Judith, and Lynn) met at Otaihanga Park, Waikanae to walk both sides of the Waikanae River – 10 kilometres. The day was overcast but pleasant. The walk was flat and we enjoyed all the side tracks which didn’t accommodate bike riders. It was also interesting to walk the new clip-on bike/walking bridge over the Waikanae River. The opinion was that the inconvenience caused by its construction had made crossing from one side of the river to the other safer for all.
We finished off with coffee at the Olive Grove Coffee shop in Waikanae. We were rather lucky to find a seat as of course it was Mothers’ Day. A lovely walk on a cool Autumn day which was enjoyed by us all, however Rob completed half the walk with his shoe taped up and the last 100 metres without a sole on his shoe – not to be recommended. Wear your best boots next time Rob!
