Crisp autumnal temps greeted the 11 UHWTC members who meet at the Remutaka Incline cycle trail car park in Pakuratahi Forest. This carpark is also used by cyclists who bring their own bikes or use hire facilities available. Many families and individuals enjoy a leisurely walk along the Remutaka Rail Trail so parking spaces can be limited in the carpark but available close by on Incline Road.
To get to the entrance of the Goat Rock Loop track we retraced our route walking back along the Incline Road past the Go-Kart track to the T intersection with Station Drive. Turning left we proceeded along for 1/2 km until we reached the sign for Goat Rock Track on the left-hand side. This is a 4WD uphill track which undulates through bush and pine forest.
Walkers enjoyed a relaxed pace along Goat Rock with pine needles carpeting the well-formed track. Abundance of bird life was heard singing high in the pine trees. Pinecones were plentiful also and gathered to dry for winter fires.
We turned left when Goat Rock Loop track joined the Remutaka Rail Trail. Snacks were enjoyed mid-way along Goat Rock track; group stopping for lunch at sunny picnic table and seats when we rejoined the Remutaka Rail track. After lunch a leisurely 4km walk took us back to where our cars were parked. The group took 3 1/2hrs to walk this 11.6km track. Dogs are allowed on provided they are kept on leads.
Coffee and cake were enjoyed by many at Te Marua Golf Club on the route home.
