7 of us set out for this 9 km walk on the Karapoti Gorge Trail to McGhies
Bridge and return. The weather had not quite made up its mind as to
what it wanted to do. We experienced cooler temperatures, warmth and
rain. Under foot was very uneven, rocks to say the least and many
puddles to be avoided. I suppose you could say we zig/zagged a good part of the track to avoid the "puddles". We negotiated a river crossing
crossing, with the rain we had prior to the walk, the water was up some
and the rocks were rather slippery. We all managed the crossing both
ways with out to much in the way of a mishap. Of course, after the
previous weekend rain there were many waterfalls and some very pretty
ones were running down the moss-covered banks. The river follows the
track and it was running very fast. The bush on this walk is quite
spectacular as were the stand of Gum trees and with heat of the sun, the
perfume from the gum tree was very pleasant. The end of the walk was
followed by hot drink and food at Mitre 10
