It was a cold day with rain forecast for later in the morning when we set off from Blackrock Road and climbed the hill to The Promontory. A quick stop for a group photo and then it was down into the bush. This walk is made up of a couple of 2km tracks with a street in between. Part of it is above the Motorway from Newlands to Horokiwi and in certain areas, we could hear traffic noise. The good thing was that you get plenty of views down to the harbour. About 2/3 of the track wanders through bush in a couple of gulleys. Some of our group set a very quick pace (I thought they were trying to win the Derby!) but they didn’t manage to quite beat the rain as we did have one light shower. We had a brief stop at Waihinahina Park for morning tea and to enjoy the view before heading up the hill, past the marae and out onto Horokiwi Road. 4 of us stopped at the New World for a coffee, came out just as it started raining, walked 10 minutes back to the car and set off for Upper Hutt.
