It was a really pleasant slightly overcast morning when we all gathered at the end of Parkes Line Road. The 12 of us set off up the hill, passing a work party next to the Railway line. Once up the hill it was a short flat walk to the disused Mangaroa Tunnel which had been part of the old Remutuka Incline. Once through the tunnel assisted by the torches on our phones, we stopped for a group photo before heading across the lawn to Upper Tane’s Track. It was a 40-minute walk through beautiful bush with a couple of stops for the waterfall and a viewpoint. From here we walked along the road and onto Station Road, also part of the old incline track. About 1km in we stopped at a table for morning tea before retracing our steps back to the park road, where we made our way down to the lower car park. After a quick pit stop, we followed Lower Tane’s Track back up to the tunnel and retraced our steps back to our cars.
It had been a lovely easy walk and 5 of us drove up to Te Marua Golf Club for a cuppa.
