A group of 12 of us enjoyed a lovely day for our walk round Whitby walkways – the forecast rain about 11am did not arrive so we were able to enjoy all the views. We set off from Discovery School, first visiting the large display of daffodils beside the Whitby Walkway, then headed up the bush track to Spinnaker Lookout for a view across Paremata, Whitby and Pauatahanui Inlet. From the lookout we walked down Mercury way on the footpath, turning right onto another track which took us down to Leeward Drive for another short walk along the footpath. We then headed up the 60+ steps to the bush path again, and bypassing the lookout, we took the path down to the walkway, back past the daffodils and up the zig zag path to The Yardarm where we took our lunch break in the sunshine.
After lunch we visited the Rex Green and Bradey Park viewpoints for more views over the inlet, then it was back to the cars having done 3 hours walking incorporating bush tracks, footpaths and three viewpoints. Most of us visited Niche café for a coffee and treat afterwards. We will always remember Nichole’s milkshake!
