It was a great day for walking, overcast (drizzled a couple of times) but still, as 10 of us and Nala the dog, set off and explored the Old Farm Track. Once a working farm, there has been lots of planting done here to bring the local native plants back into the grounds. Jane brought along her sister, Sally, who is involved as a volunteer with this planting. She was really interesting to talk to about the project.
From the Old Farm Track to avoid coming out in Poplar Ave we navigated our way along unmarked tracks to get to the Raumati Beach Carp Park. From here, we walked along the beach, where Nala had an absolute ball throwing herself in the water and playing with any other dogs along the way.
Back at Whareroa Beach we had a short break before walking down the road to the old Army Camp used by the US Marines in WWII. From here we bid farewell to Brett and Nala and continued around the Wetlands and through a bush walk, eventually coming out by the Training Centre near the car park. We had taken 2.5 hours to walk 10kms.
Most of us went for a cuppa at Paekakariki before heading home.
