The walk on this day was touch and go, should we or not. A decision was made to continue with the walk and what an amazing day it turned out to be for nine of us. By the time we left Silverstream, the rain had eased. Travelling to the Remutaka State Forest and arriving in the car park there was no hint of rain. There were signs of the cloud clearing and the sun coming out. We started out on the track which was dry underfoot, on passing the bird call boxes, which we wound up and listened to the different calls of the male and female kiwi. We continued along the track until we reached the long foot bridge. We stopped here for light refreshment before continuing the walk. Once across the foot bridge the track under foot was still good, however, further on the track then became very muddy in parts. We made our way to the temporary turn off and underfoot here was really muddy with many exposed tree roots. Walkers had the choice of walking down to the river or stay and have lunch at the top. We all elected to have lunch at the top. After lunch we made our way back to the car park and then went onto California Gardens for hots drinks and treats. A good day over head with sunshine and a pleasant walk through the forest.
