Forecasted rain and thunder storms failed to materialise this morning resulting in a dry and very pleasant local walk for 4 Club Members. The route went via the shared cycle/walk track from Silverstream Bridge to Manor Park Railway Station - several cyclists met enroute. After crossing the bridge over Western Hutt Road, we navigated side streets to the base of Haywards Substation adjacent to Haywards Hill Road. Route then changed to bush track running north adjacent to Western Hutt Road and back to Silverstream Bridge and Keith George Memorial track. A large concrete water pipe running under SH2 took us on to the Hutt River track and back to starting point in Field Street.
The bush track crosses one small stream where care had to be taken; poles proved helpful in narrow undulating sections. The latter track was safe comfortable walking on pine needles and leaves. Raincoats were not needed but good boots and poles added to safety. There are quite a number of bush tracks in this area many of which were beginning to get overgrown showing the on-going maintenance required by volunteers and Council staff to keep tracks functioning.
