We didn’t get the blue sky day we were promised, but we completed the walk without getting rained on, and all walkers came prepared with warm clothes!

We set off from the carpark just after 10am and after initially walking on the boardwalk which is right beside the road, so can be a bit noisy, we branched off onto a side road and well-formed track to Motukaraka Point, where we had a snack break.  On the way we had seen quite a few birds, including kingfishers, spoonbills and oyster catchers. We set off on the second stage of the walk to the water sports club, where we had some lunch and a group photo. We returned to Pauatahanui Village where most of us had a coffee, and were back at our cars just after 1pm – any by then the sun had come out and it was pleasantly warm!
