Five of us arrived at the Karapoti carpark ready to begin a long walk back through the trails in the Akatarawa Forest to Totora Park. As usual the stream crossing and the giant puddles had to be negotiated in the gorge section but with only one motor bike to avoid, we were soon at McGhies bridge for morning tea. From here the trail widens out to the beginning of Woolshed road and all the way to the top of the zigzag. Although this part of the trail is quite steep our party of five made good time and we were soon back at the cars and on to Mitre 10 for afternoon tea.
