An extremely cold, misty morning saw 8 of our hardy club members meet at the Remutaka Incline car park at the end of Station Drive - 15.5km north of Upper Hutt via SH2. Everyone was wearing layers of woollen, thermal or polypropylene jumpers, vests, coats, trousers, hats and cloves.
From the Incline carpark we walked back along the Incline Road where we connected with Station Drive; turning left we then connected with the old State Highway 2. Walking 500 metres we turned left on to Goat Rock Pass. This 4WD trail took us over the hill and back down on to the Incline walking track. I have walked this trail several times but forgot that it is a quite hilly 6 km undulating track. In hindsight I now feel we should have allowed in our planning to STOP mid-way along Goat Rock Pass for everyone to have a drink/snack/rest.
Once we rejoined the Remutaka walking/cycling track we turned left and walked another couple of km to a picnic table for a much-needed lunch/refreshment stop in the sun. From there it took only a short 30min. walk back to our cars. The route covered is 11km and took approx 3 hrs. including stops.
Being a sunny Sunday there were quite a few vehicles on the public roads into the car park and lots of cyclists enjoying the Remutaka Incline track.
Great company, lots of chat and laughter made for a most enjoyable Sunday Club Walk. Several of us called in for delicious coffee and refreshments at Te Marua Golf Club enroute back to Upper Hutt.
