Today’s walk started at Motukaraka Point Reserve which is 2km along Gray’s Road on the northern side of Pauatahanui inlet. Due to the forecasted heavy morning frost, a later than usual starting time was arranged. Members from Silverstream met at 10am and car pooled to Motukaraka Point Reserve giving the sun time to warm the air and lift the frost. Cars were parked here and our walk began.
8 club members enjoyed the coastal track that heads north along Gray’s Road for 5km where it joins the Camborne Walkway. 3 Kingfisher birds were seen sunning themselves on overhead power lines. A wide selection of other birds live in these wetlands. The Camborne Walkway is generally flat and hugs the coast line. It offers scenic views and passes the iconic boat sheds prior to arriving at Mana Esplanade where we stopped for coffee before retracing our route back to the cars.
Conditions were perfect for our 10km (2 1/2 hr.) mid-winter walk. Great company and chat as we welcomed back several members who had just returned from travels overseas. On returning to our cars at Motukaraka Point Reserve we were each given a generous portion of frozen venison by one of our members who is an expert hunter. WHAT AN UNEXPECTED TREAT !!!!! THANK YOU PETER !!!!
