It was an overcast but very still day as we left Sladden Park along the stop bank. We were soon walking through Shandon Golf Club before coming out on Waione St. We stopped here and had our photo taken beside a van made to look like a shark. This very strange vehicle was advertising insurance. Then it was through the underpass to walk along a noisy road for a couple of minutes before turning left and following the trail alongside some industrial compounds. I commented on the razor wires at the top of a fence and how I had seen a lot of these in South Africa. Our new member Veronica told me the ones in South Africa are also electrified.
We then came out by some boatsheds and followed the river as far as we could before crossing a road leading into a sand plant. It was then across the Hikoikoi Reserve before descending onto the beach which walked the length of. We had a brief stop at morning tea before heading back via Jackson St and Café Fig for a coffee. It was then through the Petone Recreation Ground and the streets back to the cars. We had been out for 3 hours by the time we returned and walked just under 10kms.
