It was a very pleasant walk if somewhat cold to start off with, on this new link cycle and walking route. We followed Underhill Road to it’s end on the Greytown side and walked through an easy bush pathway to the new purpose-built cycle and walking bridge right beside the rail bridge. Just as we finished crossing, we had the train heading from Masterton to Wellington go past. We walked another 500 meters through more bush to a car park and had lunch on the boulders before returning back to Woodside Railway Station.
On the way back to Upper Hutt, we stopped at Mother Goose for a coffee. This had been the Tin Hut at Tauwharenikau, a pub with a past. Nice to see the old place being given a new lease of life.
