4 of us set out on the Te Whiti Riser walk with conditions slightly
overcast and a gentle breeze coming across every now and then. With no
rain over past weeks the track under foot was very good. The track is
undulating and begins to climb gradually until you reach the top. On the
lower part of the track as we turned a corner, we came across a family of
Quail, who scattered rather quickly up into the bush. Fortunately, we
were able to see them scurrying through the bush. Rather than walk
directly to the top, we took the bush walk track on our right, this
track does bring you out onto the ECNZ track. On the bush track there
were some very good views over Wellington Harbour. Once we came off the
track we turned left and made our way up to the Te Whiti Riser outlook.
By this time the wind had got up - rather breezy and a little cooler. We
had a quick drink and snacks, looked at the views over Wainuiomata and
Wellington. We made our way down the track, the wind dropped and the sun
came out, rather warm at this time. Once we came off the track, we made
our way to California Gardens for Tea/Coffee and also the purchase of
veg/flower plants for the gardens at home. We walked 9.5kms
