What a great day 13 of us enjoyed walking the Orongorongo Track in the Remutaka Forest Part. Being such a great day there were many out on the track for a daily walk or staying overnight camping or in huts. Also great seeing a number of families out enjoying the facilities. The track follows the river taking you through Native and Beech Forest. Underfoot the track was great compared to the previous week where it was very wet
and muddy. The lower part of the track is currently out of commission owing to a large slip. We took the alternative track which will get you down to the river. The track taking you to the river, is downhill and narrow. The majority of the group went down to have lunch at the river site and a couple stayed back at the top to have their lunch. On the return journey, we stopped to have a look at an old Hut off the track - not many of the group new about it and a number of photos were taken. We
had a brief stop once egressing off the swing bridge and then made our way back to the car park.
Light refreshment was then enjoyed at the California Garden Centre.
