It was a warm day, and very calm which meant a very pleasant walk for the 13 who joined me. It was great to have 2 new potential members Michael, and Sam, join us.
The first 20 or so minutes was a flat walk beside the water then we branched off to the left to head up the hill which is a steady but not too steep climb. After about 50 minutes we arrived at Onehunga Bay where we had a brief snack and drinks break.
Because it was such a lovely day, we extended our walk by heading further round the coast, and most of the group tackled the narrow steep small hill to cross over to Kaitawa Point, where we had a clear view of Mana Island, and the amazing tessellated rocks on this particular beach. We retraced our steps, joining the rest of the group, and we all returned to Onehunga Bay for another drinks break and some lunch. We then continued on the track following the water’s edge, stopping to watch a mighty battle between a fisherman and quite a big fish. The line got caught on some rocks and the fisherman waded out and just as he was about to get the fish it got away! We continued on to our cars arriving about 3.5 hours after we set out.
We then headed to Columbus in Mitre 10 for a coffee.
