Wrights Hill - Feb 1st 2024

We had a beautiful day for this new walk. Five of us drove in from Silverstream and met three other club members in Campbell St. We set off from behind the Scout Hall and made our way up a zigzag track in the bush. This track is also used for the Zealandia Perimeter walk. Almost at the top, we branched off to the right and continued on for another 5 minutes to reach the lookout at the Wrights Hill Fortress. It certainly does give some impressive views over Wellington.

From here we took another track which led us to the old Parade Grounds and the followed the 4-wheel drive track down to the road. It was a short walk from here to the middle carpark where we joined up with the Salvation Track, which meandered gently through the bush. We came off this track in Woodhouse St and walked down the road to Karori Park Café where we grabbed a coffee and ate our lunch under the shade.

From here it was a 3.5 km road walk back to the cars. Next time I will park closer to the Main Road in Karori to divide up the road walking a little. But everyone agreed it was a good walk and that they had enjoyed it. We walked a total of 10.5 kms
