Goat Rock & Remutuka Incline - Apr 11th 2024

There were eight of us and one Border Terrier who set out on this walk on a hot but overcast day. Rain was forecast, so I had started the walk at 9.30am. We set off down the road, narrowly avoiding a bus before we turned up the driveway to the Glider Club. It was a pretty decent hill climb and we were off at quite a fast pace, so it was nice to gather our breath and have a drink at the airstrip. It also gave me a chance to take a group photo with the large flat space behind. Then it was off again, back up the hill, turning left and scrambling over a gate or large rock to the side of this gate, to the grassed track beyond. In no time we joined onto Goat Rock Road and kept climbing a more gradual gradient to the top. After this it was all downhill walk to the Remutuka Incline, where we came across some of the people from the bus on bikes. It was a 25-minute flat walk back to the cars. We had walked 7 kms in 1.5 hours, which was pretty good considering the hill involved. Four of us went on and had a coffee at the Te Marua Golf Club. It started raining just as I got home, so great timing. It was nice to have two new people try us out for this walk, one of which, Christine has now joined the club. Welcome!
