Upper Hutt Walking & Tramping Club

Committee

President: Janice Coldicott

I have been a very occasional tramper completing some of the Great Walks over years past.  I moved to Upper Hutt and discovered the club through friendships and undertook some organised longer walks and weekends away organised by the club. Less walking now due to a non performing hip. I've been on the committee 1 year prior to becoming President.

Otherwise I'm in a couple of choirs, on committees for both choirs, am keen on sport, always battling at managing 2 acres of land, and have a fair variety of pets.

Secretary: Anne-Mette Kvers

I am secretary of the club and have been a member for 3 years. I joined because of a love of the outdoors and for the company. It is great to meet like-minded people.

For me exercising with others from the club encourages me to go further than I otherwise would.

I enjoy our trips away as well as our day walks as I get to places, I otherwise wouldn't see.

Treasurer: Denise Arcus

Born and raised in Upper Hutt, attended the local primary school and went to Heretaunga College. After I married, my late husband and I built in the Upper Hutt area. Other than flatting in Eastbourne and Newlands, Upper Hutt has been my stamping ground and still is. I have been with the club 12+ years and have experienced wonderful walks and tramps. I have made many friends and enjoyed many social events with them. I found members of the club very friendly and tolerant of those who were not as fit (like myself). You can be assured that fitness does come. When you are out walking and chatting with members of the group, you sometimes don’t notice the inclines you are climbing. Come and join us some time and see how you feel about or club.

Chief Guide: Judith O'Leary

I joined the club in 2012 and for the first 3 years joined in day walks on a Sunday. I was very unfit and was amazed at how patient and encouraging everyone was. I very slowly improved my fitness and really loved discovering all the tracks and pathways I had not been able to walk with my dogs.

I moved to Upper Hutt in 2015 and soon joined the committee and have helped in one way or another ever since. When my last dog passed away, I was able to start coming away on weekend trips and was invited to walk the Kaikoura Track. From then on, I was totally hooked. I have managed a few multi day tramps, discovered so many beautiful day walks and explored so much of New Zealand with a great group of people.

Currently I am the Chief Guide and Website / Facebook coordinator.

Membership Coordinator: Sharon Dunstan

My name is Sharon Dunstan and I have belonged to the club for about 10 years now, serving as Membership Coordinator for the last 3 years. Although I live in Whitby now, I have a long association with Upper Hutt having spent my childhood and teenage years there, and I still have many relatives living there. Along with the Sunday walks to numerous parts of the Wellington Region, I have really enjoyed the many weekends away we have experienced. Joining the club was one of the best things I've done and many club members have become good friends.

Committee: Brenda Franklin

Brenda enjoys getting out on walks and meeting others with similar interests and enjoys being a busy grandmother to her four mokopuna.
