Canon Point - Feb 4th 2024

What a great turn out for last Sunday's walk a total of 11 walkers. We
had 4 new faces on the walk and hopefully they may become future
members. Thanks for joining us, Kim, JD, and Stu & Melissa. We walked
from Tulsa Park to California Park, then onto the River Trail. From
there we made our way up to Birchville Dam, unfortunately the spill over
the dam was very limited. Surprising after the downpours we had on
Friday and Saturday. The track up to the dam was in very good condition
and the conditions overhead could not have been a better for this walk
- some cloud and sun and a gentle breeze now and then. From the dam we
made our way up to Cannon Point Trig. There were stops for light
refreshment prior to reaching the Trig Station. With the rejuvenation of
the bush (growing taller) many of the views over the Upper/Lower Hutt
have been restricted. We could see out to Wellington Harbour and some of
the Hutt River. Views over Trentham were not so restricted.  We stopped
for lunch at the trig and some of our walkers were quite enamoured with a
dog up there. They made friends and spoke with the owners, I'm sure the
dog enjoyed all the attention he was getting. From there we went down
the track (wonderful bush on this one) and made our way to 3 Skulls Road
- walked down this road and met up with the temporary exit for Tulsa
Park.  Returned to cars and some of us made our way to Mitre 10 for
coffee. Most enjoyable day - we walked 12.3kms
