Plimmerton Loop – Thursday 26 May 2022

Four of us carpooled to Plimmerton for this walk. We parked in the new overflow station car park next to Palmers Garden World. It was an overcast and slightly cooler day, just perfect for walking.

We followed the old State Highway 1 to Whenua Tapu Cemetery along a shared cycle and walking path. The volume of traffic had decreased immensely with the advent of Transmission Gully. We then turned left and followed Airlie Road to the clearly marked walking track sign. It was then over a stile and up the hill, overlooking Taupo Swamp.

We had morning tea / lunch at a lovely viewpoint where Mana Island was in clear view. Then down the road to another marked entrance which took us down a large number of steps through rather beautiful bush. We came out by the sea and followed the road around to the railway station, with a short Op Shop stop before going through the underpass and back to the car.

In all it took us just under 3 hours.
