Easter at Carterton - Mar 29th - Apr 1 2024

Easter at Carterton - Mar 29 - Apr 1st 2024

There were eleven members of the club who attended.

We stopped off in Greytown first to traverse the Woodside Rail Trail, a 10km round trip. While we were having lunch in the station, the heavens opened up and to put it descriptively all the cats and dogs fell at once. We were not looking forward to the return trip. You would not believe it, as we finished lunch the rain stopped and we had a dry run back to our cars.

On Saturday we drove to Tinui to complete the Anzac walk. This walk was not for the faint hearted and I mean if you had a weak heart. It was uphill the whole way, no reprieve, mud that stuck to your boots like caulobacter crescentus, a sticky substance that is able to hold cars together while you lift them with a crane. We made it to the shelter at the top, and you wouldn't believe it. The sky opened up and the cats and dogs returned from the day before and just like the day before as we finished eating the sky cleared. This walk was a challenge. There was a very spiritual presence on the top of this hill and you couldn't help but think about the fallen soldiers of WW1. Sharon tried to take a photo of a Fantail that was determined to dement her with its elusiveness.

On Sunday we walked the Fensham Reserve Bush walk, where Rob asked me to climb over an electric fence so I could take a better group photo and Denise told me not to get so excited about a partridge as I scared it off and she couldn’t get a photo in time.  The Fantail must have followed us to Carterton to further dement Sharon.

I am not one to gossip but Judith managed to get us lost not once but twice for the first time ever. In her defence a street sign had been taken.  Sharon is more competitive than an Olympian when it comes to board games. Lyn is powered by ever ready batteries. One of our members took a natural sleep remedy so she wouldn't hear her roommate snore. On Saturday night the club went to the Buckhorn Bar and Grill and had a very nice meal. On Sunday I drove home. The remaining members drove to Martinborough and walked the Rapaki Hillside Walk and then hit the Wineries. There was more chocolate than at a children's birthday party.  A great weekend was had by all. Thank you for your great company.
