Battle Hill - Jan 18th 2024

4 of us set off on a rather over cast day to do the summit walk located in the Battle Hill Farm area (Denise A, Judith, Ruth, and Kim - a new member). Before commencing our walk, we went over and had look at the Battle Hill War Memorial and other grave sites that appear to be sadly neglected. As it is our summer, there were many campers/holiday makers in the camping grounds.

We started our walk on a well-formed track. The first part of the track is covered in bush and rising at a steady pace. Once we have arrived onto the farmland itself it is slightly flatter. We then continued up to the summit and again another gradual climb. However, it is worth the climb as the views are amazing. Views of Transmission gully, the bare hills on the Puketiro Loop - milling is still going on. You can make out some of the art work on the Morgans Golf Course - the latest being a White Feather, amazing to see from Transmission Gully. After a break at the top, we commenced our downward trek on the farmland track. At this time light rain started and made some of the grasses greasy and slippery to walk on. However, we made it safely down and had our lunch in the covered area from the car. After lunch we made our way to Groundup for Coffee - most enjoyable
